The Senior Director of Philanthropy Marketing & Communications and Donor Engagement will report to the VP of Philanthropy Marketing Communications and Donor Experience and will play a key role in connecting fundraising activity to system priorities.

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and a proven project manager. This individual should be a responsive, positive and amiable collaborator, who is comfortable partnering with enterprise leaders and staff.

The Senior Director of Philanthropy Marketing & Communications and Donor Engagement will have three primary areas of focus:

•Strategic Initiatives – Connecting all fundraising activities to COH priorities.

•Philanthropy Marketing and Communications – Amplify and infuse consistent philanthropy marketing, communications & brand into all markets through internal and external channels.

•Project Management – Oversee a variety of integrated communications projects, ensuring on-time, high-quality execution.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Serve as a key partner to the Vice President and other philanthropy leaders in shaping strategic initiatives and developing communications to support their success across City of Hope.
  • Assist the Vice President in developing and implementing communications plans for strategic initiatives in philanthropy. Building on the case for support, develop secondary publications, one-sheets, website content, videos, digital communications strategies and other communications as needed.
  • Play a leading role in developing and disseminating key messages for strategic initiatives in philanthropy across City of Hope’s national system. Helping to ensure that messaging is consistent throughout a variety of communications vehicles. Collaborate with colleagues in Annual Giving, Digital Communications, Donor Experience and Philanthropy Marketing Communications, Individual Giving and Brand Marketing and Communications to disseminate key messages through various channels.
  • Develop fundraiser toolkits, templates and other training materials, as needed, to help fundraisers advance gift conversations and ultimately secure significant gifts for strategic priorities.
  • Serve as a key partner to leaders in Philanthropy Marketing and Communications in shaping strategic initiatives and developing communications to support their success across COH.
  • Adapt toolkits, templates and other marketing collateral, as needed, to help extend the philanthropic brand to City of Hope’s regional donor audience segments.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Office of Philanthropy and across COH to activate philanthropic programs in new markets.
  • Identify and deploy storytelling opportunities (video or digital) within each market that align with key philanthropic priorities.
  • Develop and carefully monitor timelines for various projects, ensuring that the necessary information is gathered, meetings are held, vetting takes place and design is completed, so that high-quality projects are delivered in an efficient and timely way.
  • Serve as project manager for videos and digital communications initiatives, as needed, collaborating with on-site staff and external creative teams.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • 4 additional years of experience plus the minimum experience requirement may substitute for minimum education.
  • 5+ years in healthcare marketing, regional marketing and advertising, philanthropy communications, and/or philanthropy.
  • Experience in health care, higher education or other large, complex organizations.
  • Proven experience creating integrated communication plans and familiar with marketing and communications principles.
  • Considerable project management experience.
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience (i.e., agency management).
  • Strong portfolio of marketing and brand samples that demonstrate facility with regional marketing projects. Excellent command of language, grammar, spelling, with a good eye for detail.

Preferred experience:

  • Development, Academic Medicine, Non-Profit Communications, Marketing, Advertising.
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience working in a complex medical or academic development setting is preferred.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $56.31 - $94.04 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
