Minimum Requirements:

Must have at least 45 credit hours earned toward an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Must have at least a 3.000gpa towards at least an undergraduate degree. Earned a final grade of B or better in the classes you are applying to tutor, which can be verified on an official transcript. Provide official transcripts for all higher education institutions attended. Ability to communicate proficiently in English (written and oral). Ability and willingness to work at least 10 hours a week. Provide at least 2 references with at least one being a faculty/staff member at a university. Other references should be former employers, professors that can speak to your abilities in the classroom, or someone who can speak to your abilities to tutor. References cannot be personal references, peers, friends, current tutors, or current students.

Position Description:

The University of Louisville Athletic Department is seeking qualified Academic Tutor candidates to provide instructional support in academic content areas and study skill needs for student-athletes. This position will report to the Associate Director of Academic Services, Tutorial Coordinator.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement weekly sessions with students to promote independent learning.
  • Communicate effectively with the students.
  • Identify and address study skill needs for students in the context of the tutorial session.
  • Prepare and submit accurate records of sessions with student-athletes within 24 hours of the tutoring session in the GradesFirst Database.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge in academic area by prepping prior to your session to keep your skills in the subject matter sharp.
  • Know and comply with policies of the Thorntons Academic Center of Excellence that govern the tutoring of student-athletes, particularly NCAA regulations.
  • Comply with the University’s FERPA and Sexual Harassment guidelines.
  • Work with Academic Counselors and Staff to ensure success of the student-athlete.
  • Attend tutor training and meetings as required, completing at least 25 hours of tutoring per semester for CRLA (College Reading & Learning Association) Level I Tutor Certification.
  • Additional duties assigned by Tutorial Coordinator.
