City of Hope is searching for a bold, forward‑thinking Counsel, Labor & Employment to join our high‑impact legal team. This is your chance to partner with leaders across Human Resources, Compliance, and Operations to shape workforce strategy, influence critical decisions, and help drive our mission to transform the future of cancer care.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Act as a strategic legal partner to HR, Compliance, Internal Audit, and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide practical, business‑savvy guidance on a wide spectrum of labor and employment issues, including wage & hour, accommodations, investigations, OSHA, workers’ compensation, independent contractors, employee benefits, and traditional labor matters.
  • Draft, refine, and elevate workforce policies, HR templates, employment agreements, and vendor contracts.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by researching and tracking multi‑state and federal employment law developments, and translating them into clear, actionable legal opinions and presentations.
  • Support traditional labor matters, including grievances and union‑related issues.
  • Collaborate closely with the Deputy General Counsel and the broader legal team on cross‑functional initiatives and matters involving outside counsel.
  • Lead training and education efforts on employment law updates, workforce trends, and policy changes.
  • Break down complex legal concepts into clear, accessible guidance that empowers business partners to make informed, confident decisions.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

  • 3+ years of multi-jurisdictional and California employment law experience (law firm or in‑house).
  • Member in good standing of at least one State Bar (CA, AZ, IL, or GA preferred).
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, research, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and deliver high‑quality work.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and alignment with City of Hope’s values and Code of Conduct.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Traditional labor law experience

  • Experience in healthcare, nonprofits, or academic medical centers

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $88.56 - $147.90 / hour
