What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to join our dynamic and collaborative Global Burst Detector (GBD) Quality Team. The GBD program is a significant and long-term space payload program executed by Sandia¿s Monitoring Systems and Technology Center 6700.
Our mission involves designing and producing payloads hosted by GPS satellites, utilizing advanced technologies to monitor for nuclear detonations on Earth, in the atmosphere, and in space. This critical mission requires exceptional Quality support and collaboration to ensure our payloads meet demanding design and performance requirements while adhering to cost and schedule constraints. On any given day, you may be called to:
- Partner closely with R&D teams to provide quality support throughout the development lifecycle of the GBD program, ensuring that design and performance requirements are met from the earliest stages of product development.
- Support the GBD project by execution of its deliverables within the framework of its Quality Management Systems (QMS), established and maintained in accordance with AS9100 certification.
- Conduct planning, control, auditing, and continuous improvement activities for the GBD program.
- Lead quality assurance initiatives for the GBD program, including causal analysis, corrective action, and measurement activities, utilizing a Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) defect prevention methodology.
- Implement engineering methods, tools and techniques to design, maintain and improve GBD work processes.
- Develop, operate, and maintain GBD quality control systems.
- Evaluate and analyze testing and inspection procedures to diagnose and correct GBD quality control practices as necessary.
- Define, identify, and apply product and process control methods, such as developing risk mitigation plans, identifying critical control points, and developing and validating assembly/test procedures and work instructions for GBD processes.
- Work with various SMEs throughout the GBD product lifecycle to interpret specifications and requirements and select and develop trusted GBD suppliers.
The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Salary Range:
$85,100 - $164,100
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent education and experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in a STEM field
- Active DoD or DOE security clearance.
- Experience in High-Technology Industries such as space systems, electronics, or other high-consequence fields.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems: experience working within established frameworks such as ISO 9000 or AS9100.
- Proven ability to analyze technical data, formulate performance assessments, and implement process improvements to achieve desired outcomes.
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing or production environments, with a focus on quality control practices.
- Excellent ability to collaborate, influence, and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks and competing priorities to meet project deadlines and objectives.
About Our Team:
The Monitoring Systems & Technology (MST) Systems Assurance Department leads innovation and R&D for Center 6700, specializing in definition, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of technical systems and processes. Our focus is on product development for initiatives like the Global Burst Detector (GBD) and Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT).
We work closely with technical project teams, partners, and stakeholders to meet customer requirements for cost, schedule, performance, and quality. Committed to fostering innovation, we conduct evaluations that prioritize innovative approaches, integrate technical solutions into ongoing projects, and participate in risk and root cause analyses to drive improvements.
Quality management is an essential component to our work. We ensure compliance with program procedures and quality standards, document lessons learned and implement best practices for future activities. Additionally, we apply Lean Six Sigma principles to optimize laboratory spaces across the Center, enhancing operational efficiency.
By focusing on technical excellence and R&D, the MST Systems Assurance Department is vital to advancing the Center's mission and delivering successful project and program outcomes.

Security Clearance:
