SummaryThe Finance Business Data Analyst has responsibility for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining reports, data extracts, and data visualizations in support of the Office of the Controller as well as Budget Office and Business Operations areas of responsibility within the Finance and Administration (F&A) Division. By transforming data into useful information, this position supports the ongoing development of the budget, business, and financial reporting aspects of BGSU.
Essential Functions
Develop, validate, and deploy data extract and reporting tools that improve the operations of the Office of the Controller and other F&A departments while providing enhanced decision-making capabilities.
Document instructions and definitions associated with business intelligence tools to ensure a clear and complete understanding of the report and/or data.
Partner with members of the Office of the Controller team to identify and define data extract and reporting needs along with the best delivery method.
Provide training and support to end users on institutional business intelligence resources, including subject matter expertise related to data and business definitions.
Complete special projects, other related duties, and participate in Office of the Controller activities, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
The following Degree is required:
Bachelor’s degree. Degree must be conferred at the time of application.
The following Degree is preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Business intelligence, computer science, information systems management, statistics or a related field
The following Experience is required:
6 months of experience working in a role involving data reporting, training end-users, or providing technical documentation and user support
1 year of student or GA experience equals 6 months of professional experience
Additional Information
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of financial reporting and budgeting principles in a higher education or public sector environment
Understanding of business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar data visualization platforms
Familiarity with ERP systems
Proficiency in querying and manipulating data using SQL or similar tools
Skilled in developing user-friendly dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to support strategic decision-making
Effective technical documentation and instructional writing skills
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data needs and deliver tailored reporting solutions
Ability to present technical data in a clear, accessible format for non-technical users
Ability to train and support end users with varying levels of data literacy
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment
