Job Description
Job PurposeThe Senior Associate AD for Development will provide strong vision, leadership, management, coordination and oversight of athletics fundraising operations. The Charleston Athletic Fund (CAF) is a 501c3 that serves as the primary source of fundraising in support of College of Charleston Athletics. The position will have direct oversight of the Charleston Athletic Fund Staff and Charleston Athletic Fund Board. Gifts and pledges are raised through an annual membership structure, pledged major and principal gifts, deferred giving and other fundraising efforts. Goals for aggressive growth in membership and giving are expected to continue in the future. At a dynamic time for college athletics, the position will provide leadership that encourages the organization to meet today’s funding needs including scholarships, revenue sharing for student-athletes, capital projects and other department needs.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in development, fundraising, or advancement within intercollegiate athletics or higher education with demonstrated success in securing major gifts is preferred. A proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team, drive strategic initiatives, and achieve financial goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Superior written and verbal communication, creative problem-solving skills and interpersonal skills to form relationships with colleagues, fans, donors, student-athletes coaches and senior leadership.
2. Ability to articulate and meet goals and objectives.
3. Demonstrated proficiency and experience in managing relationships with high-level prospects to secure major gifts.
4. A passion for service excellence, integrity, and strong work ethic.
5. Knowledge and experience with NIL / revenue share and ability to fundraise for our new STARR (Student Athlete Recruitment and Retention) Fund.
6. Must be organized and detail oriented and demonstrate the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
· Problem solver, self-starter, and intrinsically motivated. Proactive thinking with interest in developing and executing new ideas is necessary.
· Resourceful and have the ability to lead a team as well as function as part of the larger senior team.
· Computer literacy with Word, Excel and competency in navigation of donor database systems and related software.
· Must be able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends. Some overnight travel is required.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Reports to the Deputy Director of Athletics with a dotted line to the Director of Athletics and the Chief Advancement Officer for the College of Charleston. This position will be expected to perform independently on a day-to-day basis and be able to make decisions on their own as well as collaborate with the Deputy Director of Athletics, Director of Athletics, and the Chief Advancement Officer for the College of Charleston. Must be highly motivated and demonstrate good judgment in confidential matters. Must exhibit professionalism at all times and always represent the College of Charleston in the highest regard with alumni, volunteers, parents, donors and staff.
Attendance is required at all home men’s basketball games as well as selected games/competitions of other athletics teams throughout the year. Attendance at select Institutional Advancement meetings is required.
