The Biomedical Equipment Technician III (BMET III) is a highly skilled technician responsible for the advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of complex medical equipment and systems. As a senior member of the biomedical team, the BMET III serves as a mentor to junior technicians, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and contributes to the development of policies and procedures to optimize medical equipment functionality and safety.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on complex medical equipment, including imaging systems, life-support devices, and integrated networks.

  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring or critical issues.

  • Coordinate with manufacturers and vendors for advanced troubleshooting and repairs.

  • Lead performance testing and calibration of sophisticated medical devices to ensure proper functionality and compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to address issues in high-risk equipment.

  • Ensure all equipment meets regulatory standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, NFPA, FDA, AAMI).

  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance, inspections, and service calls in the asset management system.

  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to BMET I and II technicians.

  • Assist in developing standard operating procedures and maintenance protocols.

  • Lead team projects and coordinate work schedules as directed by management.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clinical staff on critical equipment issues.

  • Collaborate with department heads and users to recommend improvements in device usage and maintenance practices.

  • Participate in equipment acquisition planning by evaluating new technologies and providing recommendations.

  • Oversee the management of spare parts, replacement schedules, and vendor relationships.

  • Serve as an expert resource on one or more specialized equipment categories (e.g., radiology, laboratory, surgical).

  • Support integration of devices into hospital IT networks, ensuring cybersecurity protocols are followed.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician in a healthcare setting.

  • Valid state driver’s license.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET)

  • Manufacturer-specific training or certification

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $32.44 - $50.28 / hour
