The Project Manager is responsible for the successful development, coordination, and delivery of the AI Research Institute on Interaction for AI Assistants (ARIA) — a groundbreaking, multi-institutional initiative led by Brown University. This position will work closely with faculty, researchers, funding agencies, and community partners to define project goals, timelines, performance metrics, and budgets. They will implement and monitor project plans, facilitate effective collaboration across institutions, and ensure key deliverables and milestones are achieved.


This position is dedicated to supporting the ARIA Director with administrative and executive leadership of the project. Key responsibilities include a) organizing, coordinating, and documenting internal meetings (such as group, advisory board, and senior leadership meetings) as well as external meetings across the ARIA network, b) managing events, and c) establishing and maintaining timelines for seed funding processes and overseeing post-award financial monitoring. The Project Manager will support onboarding new students and postdoctoral students, researchers, administer travel grants, facilitate inter-site travel, and assist with the management of ARIA’s website and communications.

The fixed-term position is initially for 5 years, with annual renewals subject to satisfactory work performance. After the initial 5-year period, the potential for renewal is contingent upon the availability of funding.


This position is hybrid-eligible.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 3 years of related project management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in an academic/ research environment.

Master’s degree and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred.

Strong knowledge of financial management, including budget planning, monitoring, and reporting for federally funded projects.

Experience and expertise in project management tools, particularly across multiple constituents and organizations with interdisciplinary teams.

Excellent interpersonal skills. Must quickly establish and maintain a solid working relationship with various customers and constituents.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain project budgets and schedules for federally-funded projects and plan and manage projects to achieve deadlines and objectives.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including writing and delivering clear and effective reports and presentations to various audiences, both internal and external.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Proven ability to independently and effectively manage and resolve issues under various circumstances and urgency, with insight, diplomacy, and sensitivity, as well as coordinate and direct a multi-disciplined team that includes managers and peers.

Proficiency in MS Office applications, Google Suite applications, and/or project management software. Experience with Workday and Huron is preferred.

Initiative and judgment to solve problems independently.

Ability to work independently and be a strong team member.

Ability to research, analyze, and summarize findings.

Federal grant administration experience preferred.
