Job Summary/Basic Function:
This position is responsible for managing and improving all internal business operations, oversee employee activity and ensure a department is on track to meet its financial goals. Develop annual scope of work and manage progress throughout the year. Takes on special projects and coordinates completion.

Department Overview:
The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit on campus and includes the School of the Environment, the School of the Arts, and the School for the Digital Future. There are two Business Operations Manager positions open in support of COAS Schools: one for the School of the Environment and one for the School for the Digital Future. We seek experienced operations and business applicants with sound understanding of financial principles and organizational structures to help our Schools succeed.

Level Scope:
Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. works independently with general supervision; exercises judgement within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:
60% of Time the Business Operations Manager will:
● Supervises development and implementation of business forms, documents and web forms. Develops, modifies, and implements policies, rules, and procedures.
● Directs the reporting functions of the unit. May serve as the lead for special projects as assigned. Establishes and maintains internal policies and procedures for administrative activities. Implements work plans and initiatives.
● Creates and manages budget projections, analyzing revenue and expenditures and other funds. Oversees the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities.
● Collaborates with staff and faculty and other administrative units to identify opportunities and develop solutions to problems and issues.
● Frequently handles sensitive and/or confidential issues.
● May supervise and direct the work of others
● Research and analyze data for accuracy, trends, and variances to ensure acceptable business practices, procedures and compliance have been followed.

35% of Time the Business Operations Manager will:
● Leads the development, forecasting, and management of the school’s multi-fund budget, including Appropriated, Local, Grant, and Foundation funds.
● Manage daily operations and administrative processes, including procurement and contract execution.
● Processes financial transactions, such as budget transfers, journal entries, purchase requisitions, invoice payments, correcting entries, check deposits, Foundation check requests, etc. ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies.
● Compiles monthly financial reports detailing financial activity within each cost center for school leadership and faculty (e.g., PI local, start-up, course fee accounts, etc.).
● Serves as P-card approver for the school.
● Analyze enrollment trends, instructional activity (SCH), and faculty workload to inform long-range planning and revenue optimization.
● Liaise with the COAS Dean’s Office, the Office of Budget and Planning, the Provost Office, and other cross-functional areas
● Collaborate with school leadership and staff on strategic initiatives and special projects.
● May supervise administrative support staff and guide team performance and development.


5% of Time the Business Operations Manager must:
● Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Supervisory experience and leadership skills
● Knowledge of project development and management
● Ability to efficiently follow and implement policies and procedures
● Experience researching and analyzing financial and other reports and compiling information

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Higher education administration and finance experience preferred.
Experience with Boise State systems and software (Oracle, PeopleSoft, Canvas, HCM, WordPress, etc.) preferred.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $60,673.60 annually and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
