Position Overview and Responsibilities
The Center for Biomedical Data Sciences (CBDS), under the direction of Courtney Montgomery, Ph.D., is seeking an Associate Director for AI & Research Computing Initiatives to lead OMRF's expansion into artificial intelligence and advanced computational modeling. This new role will help establish the foundation for integrating AI methods across OMRF's research programs and enhance the institution's capacity for data-driven discovery.
This position will play a key part in shaping strategy, supporting scientific teams, and advancing the use of big data and machine learning to accelerate biomedical research. This individual will work collaboratively with the director of CBDS and research computing staff to ensure that OMRF remains at the forefront of emerging AI technologies and their applications in science. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Partner with the CBDS Director and current research computing staff to develop a plan for extending both infrastructure and personnel to maximize the use of big data, deep learning, and AI by OMRF scientists.
  • Serve as the resident non-LLM AI expert within the CBDS to advise the Director and staff as they help scientists incorporate these methods into their work. This may include contributing to method sections of papers or grants, though authorship is optional.
  • Stay up to date on AI and modeling techniques, as well as the resources necessary for their implementation, and lead educational efforts for the CBDS staff and the broader OMRF community.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in biomedical data analysis
  • Experience with implementation of LLM and non-LLM AI methodologies

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience in research or computational science
  • Experience in academic and/or nonprofit environments
