Job Summary
The Department of Mathematics at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for (one) non-tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning August 2026. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or related field. The Department of Mathematics at Xavier offers majors in mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduate students. Teaching responsibilities include all levels of mathematics courses. The successful candidate will teach 12 credit hours each semester. This could include interdisciplinary teaching opportunities in related programs. Applications are encouraged from applicants with a strong background in any current or emerging areas of mathematics. The department is particularly interested in candidates who can teach in a diverse university community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed.

Duties and Responsibilities:​
Teach undergraduate mathematic courses at all levels. Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, and remote;
Advise undergraduate majors in the department;
Demonstrate excellence in research, with potential for securing external funding;
Contribute to the operation and growth of the existing mathematics program;
Participate in service activities for the department, university, and community; and
Participate in on-campus department, division, college, and university meetings and assemblies, as well as university convocations and graduation.

The Department of Mathematics at Xavier University of Louisiana values teaching and research as essential components of education. The department shares the University’s mission and supports it by preparing students to create a more just and humane society through careers in actuarial science, banking, engineering, medicine, law, and teaching, among many others. The Department of Mathematics offers undergraduate instruction for three mathematics program tracks, namely a BS in mathematics, a BS in mathematics education, and a BS in statistics. Xavier University’s Department of Mathematics offers varied options in coursework and major areas of study which are designed to give the student a sound foundation in the Mathematical Sciences. Faculty members engage in ongoing mentorship and research to prepare each student to achieve the individualized goals they establish; especially preparing them for graduate school and good job opportunities. The Department of Mathematics has a good track record of placing their graduates in prominent graduate schools, where most of them have completed their Ph.D.’s successfully.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Mathematics (conferred by the time of appointment);
Strong commitment to teaching a full load of 24 credit hours per academic year;
Write and speak English proficiently;
Demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students;
Conduct ongoing, independent research resulting in scholarly publications or successful grant proposals;
Commitment to academic advising and mentoring of HBCU students leading to readiness for graduate school and the workforce;
Demonstrate ability and willingness to work collegially;
Commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population; and
Commitment to the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced training beyond the Ph.D., e.g. Post-doc, industry, etc.;
Experience teaching to a diverse student body and knowledge of effective strategies (e.g. culturally responsive or inclusive pedagogy, awareness of issues that may affect the success of underserved students) supporting underrepresented groups;
Ability/experience to mentor undergraduate students in research;
Awareness of pedagogical best practices and ongoing commitment to developing and maintaining knowledge in this area; and
Experience recruiting undergraduate students.
