College/Department Information

Research aims to advance knowledge that addresses the cultural, economic, health and societal needs of the communities we serve through research, scholarship, and creativity.
The Institutional Animal Care and use Committee (IACUC) Office provides administrative and professional support to both our researchers and committee members involved with the oversight and welfare of our animal subjects in research.
Job Summary
Responsible for the federally mandated risk-based clearance of any person who enters areas at Augusta University where animals may be present including faculty, staff, students, contractors and visitors. This includes coordinating; maintaining, notifying, tracking, documenting, and updating the IACUC Animal Occupational Health Program, IACUC online training, Cayuse/eSirius accounts and software access and coordinating facility access with Division of Laboratory Animal Services.

Coordinate, process, and monitor the system access for all users by the following:
Create and update user contact information within the Cayuse System using information from multiple sources including access requests, HR termination notifications, and email returns.
Notify Investigators to add personnel to protocols following creation and updates of the contact information.
Communicate with individual users, Investigators, and others as needed about where individuals are in the access process.
Remove system users or modify access when required and inform associated departments as needed.
Coordinate, process, and monitor the Animal Occupational Health program and risk assessments for everyone who enters areas where animals may be present by performing the following:
Receive and review animal health risk assessments and send out medical evaluation appointment requests as needed based on identified risks and species exposure.
Run reports of risk assessment renewals and send out regular renewal reminders and follow up as needed to ensure that everyone involved in the animal care and use program is adequately covered to meet federal regulations.
Monitor Human Injury involving animals reports and interact with Employee Health, Student Health, and Environmental Health and Safety as needed on cases. Create Quarterly Human Injury Involving Animals Reports to the IACUC.
Coordinate, perform, and monitor the overall clearance and routing processes to ensure regulatory compliance by:
Receiving and processing access requests notifications.
Monitoring and responding to the [email protected] email account.
Iteratively reviewing and updating completion dates for all personnel training records and medical clearances within the animal care and use program.
Sending correction notifications and training course and medical clearance reminders as needed to move individuals through the clearance process.
Providing limited scope risk assessments to short term vivarium visitors and veterinary supervised instruction prior to their visits and notify DLAS vets and training groups as needed.
Work with Environmental Health and Safety and Other units as needed for other programs involving the access to locations where animals may be housed or manipulated.
Additional Duties:
Meet with incoming student groups in person to guide them through the clearance process and coordinate an expedited clearance for these groups with Employee Health and Laboratory Animal Services.
Review monthly medical evaluation invoices against submitted risk assessments, authorize payment and submit invoices via check request or purchase orders.
Work with Employee Health, DLAS, and the IACUC Information Analyst to maintain accurate information in the occupational health and IACUC online training systems and maintain and update the Clearance Manual as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in health sciences, life sciences, or related field and a minimum of 1 year of experience in research, research administration, or occupational health and safety oversight.
Or; An Associate degree in health sciences, life sciences, or related field and a minimum of 3 years of directly related experience in research, research administration, or occupational health and safety oversight.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Research Compliance, IACUC, research animal care, or research involving the use of animal subjects.
Experience in training and occupational health oversight.
Experience managing spreadsheets and large amounts of data such as risk assessments, training logs, and records.
Current standing as a Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn information regarding occupational health and safety in the use of laboratory animals.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Management and development of communication templates.
Ability to multitask and keep multiple requests running through the process at different points.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary: $45,400-$56,700 annually
Pay Band: B8
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
