Located in the heart of North Carolina, the School emphasizes community engagement, applied research, and real-world impact—preparing students and faculty to contribute meaningfully to the economy and society.

Position Summary
The Bryan School of Business and Economics at UNC Greensboro invites applications for the position of Lecturer and Director of Economic Analysis and Public Scholarship. This 12-month role is benefits-eligible and 0.75 FTE (part-time), effective on August 1, 2026. The position is designed to strengthen the Bryan School’s engagement with external stakeholders, support regional economic development, and enhance the visibility and impact of the Bryan School.

The successful candidate will serve as a strategic bridge between the Bryan School and the broader community by disseminating existing research to public and private sector audiences and identifying and securing research funding opportunities related to economic development.
This position combines leadership in economic development and public engagement (80%) with teaching responsibilities in economics (20%), contributing to both the School’s outreach mission and academic excellence.

As a 0.75FTE position, additional compensation may be available (up to 0.25FTE) for externally funded supplemental tasks that fall outside of the position’s stated responsibilities, subject to university approval.

Key responsibilities for position:

Public Education for Regional Economic Development (30%)
Deliver public education activities on behalf of the Bryan School, including the dissemination of economics-related research findings to business and community leaders, through press releases, media interviews, publishing practitioner articles in the regional media, and making speeches that are of interest to the economic development community locally and beyond.
Translate and share economic research with business leaders, policymakers, and community stakeholders through presentations, publications, and outreach events.
Develop and distribute practitioner-oriented materials that highlight the School’s applied research and its relevance to regional economic challenges.
Stakeholder Engagement (20%)
Serve as a liaison between the Bryan School and external partners, including local governments, economic development organizations, and industry leaders.
Develop and maintain working relationships with regional leaders in the public and private sectors to identify new research opportunities that focus on issues and policies of significance to the regional economy.
Externally Funded Research (20%)
Conduct externally funded research initiatives related to economic development on behalf of the Bryan School, securing funding through individual efforts or collaborative partnerships aligned with the position’s area of professional expertise.
Foster partnerships that support collaborative research aligned with regional development priorities.
Annual Economic Impact Report (5%)
Produce an annual economic impact report for UNCG, providing data-driven insights to university leadership and external audiences.
Other duties related to economic development initiatives as assigned (5%)

Teaching (20%)
Teach 6 credit hours of courses per academic year in the Department of Economics.
Engage students in applied economics topics related to regional development, public policy, and economic strategy.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in Economics or in a closely related discipline with a Concentration in Economics.
Demonstrated experience in economic development, public engagement, or applied research.
Strong communication skills, including public speaking and professional writing.
Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
The following attributes would be considered positively:
Prior teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, especially in Economics.
Experience in higher education or academic research environments.
Familiarity with North Carolina’s economic landscape and development priorities.
Experience producing economic reports, policy briefs, or similar publications.
