Job Description
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach genetics, molecular biology, microbiology or cell biology based on the candidate’s qualifications, introductory biology, and non-majors science courses. The successful candidate will also be expected to have a developed research program or a plan for a research program involving undergraduates that attracts external funding. Other responsibilities include professional activity and service to both the University and community. The faculty member will be required to evaluate and use current technology in courses and to maintain a positive educational relationship with students and colleagues. Other duties include academic advising, curriculum development, committee service, and any other projects required to meet organizational needs. The department is planning to strengthen its Pre-Health Professions program; candidates experienced in this area are strongly encouraged to apply.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The Assistant Professor of Biology is responsible for: (1) teaching twelve credit hours per semester of coursework in Biology or any discipline for which they are credentialed after the Department Chair and College Dean review their graduate transcripts, (2) meeting all their assigned classes regularly for the full class period during their scheduled meeting times, canceling class only according to University guidelines, and (3) holding 10 Office Hours per week, with five hours being regularly scheduled while the remaining five hours may be offered by appointment. All faculty are expected to teach courses both in and not in the Biology degree program according to departmental needs.
Serve on University committees or offices, as allowed by tenure status, i.e. non-tenure track, tenure-track, tenured.
Attend regularly, all program, department, college, and faculty meetings.
Maintain accurate records of class attendance and performance in all courses as necessary, and report non-attendance to the Registrar as requested per the Provost.
Support proper assessment of all associated programs, including major degree programs and Liberal Studies.

Attend University functions, e.g. Founder’s Day, Commencement, and any other University convocations.
Participate in University-sponsored faculty development programs, such as workshops, conference sand technology professional development workshops.
Follow all classroom procedures as described in The Faculty Handbook and provide proper and timely feedback on student assignments.
Conduct research as defined by University guidelines.
Participate in community activities as part of the University service commitment.
Participate in professional organizations as part of faculty development. Seek to support University curricula and programs through grant writing.
Maintain University guidelines of professional conduct in the classroom and on other occasions with students and other members of the University community.
Participate in student and faculty evaluation procedures.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Must possess a doctorate in a field related to Proteomics, Genomics, Microbiology, Cell Biology, or Molecular Biology
Experience in course development and curriculum design
Evidence of an established research agenda or commitment to develop an extramural-funded research program that will offer experiential learning opportunities to undergraduate students
Demonstrated ability to teach with technology
Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills
Interest in research addressing the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL)
Depending on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, an initial appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor may be considered.
