Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Plant Operations supervisor and Engineering team members. Assist and ensure the preventative maintenance on all physical plant and building equipment is compliant with internal and external standards. Verify preventive and demand work done by maintenance staff. Responsible for compliance with building life safety, joint commission regulations, OSHA, NFPA, NEC and other similar standards. Additional responsibilities include plant inventory, conducting safety rounds and managing the audio-visual needs of the hospital. Responsible for maintaining and negotiating with all contracted Plant Operations vendors and maintenance suppliers. This will include contract negotiations. Responsible for maintaining relationships with vendors and suppliers and making recommendations on changes when required. Assist leadership in creating department budgets and cost analysis. Provide monthly cost and budget update to leadership.

The successful candidate:

  • Lead, coach, and develop maintenance and engineering staff through ongoing feedback and documented career development plans.

  • Promote and integrate the organization’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Behaviors (MVVBs) into daily operations and employee engagement.

  • Implement lean practices within departmental initiatives and staff workflows.

  • Establish, monitor, and report KPIs and departmental goals to leadership.

  • Supervise maintenance teams, prioritize workloads, and balance short- and long-term operational needs.

  • Manage employee relations, oversee hiring, and ensure a productive, accountable work environment.

  • Select, manage, and oversee contractors and vendors for repairs, preventive maintenance, and capital projects.

  • Ensure contracted services are performed safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.

  • Conduct regular facility and grounds inspections to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain life safety testing records, Joint Commission documentation, EOC plans, and emergency preparedness protocols.

  • Report unsafe conditions, system changes, shutdowns, and modifications to leadership and safety officers.

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures.

  • Assist with annual budget preparation and manage departmental expenses and inventory.

  • Optimize equipment performance to reduce utility costs and minimize operational risk.

  • Ensure high staff productivity aligned with facility and operational requirements.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Business or Construction Management

  • Minimum Experience: 5–10 years of experience in plant operations or construction management

  • Preferred Qualifications: Certification in Healthcare Facility Management or a related certification

  • Preferred Experience: Hospital or healthcare facility experience

  • Skills/Abilities: Proven ability to lead and manage a team of maintenance engineers

  • Software: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

City of Hope employees pay is based on the following criteria: work experience, qualifications, and work location.

This position is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $45.25 - $74.49 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
