The Office of Human Subjects Protection is seeking an independent, driven person to fill the role of IRB Analyst/Audit Coordinator.

Qualified applicants possess a Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred, with at least 2-3 years of experience related to compliance work or higher education. Qualified applicants must have the ability to understand, interpret, and apply federal regulations and the ability to communicate effectively, especially through writing.

Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills, the ability to organize, write about and discuss regulatory and complex issues clearly, and the ability to communicate with highly diverse group of people from a variety of disciplines. We prefer a candidate with a proven ability to take the initiative and work both independently and as a team member, who can manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work well under deadlines. Conceptual familiarity with human subjects and other academic research, experience working in a fast-paced academic research environment, and experience working with faculty from various academic disciplines is preferred.

This position has two primary responsibilities. First, oversee the audit function of USD’s Human Research Protection Program and perform compliance audits of experiments involving humans. This involves leaving the office and meeting with researchers regularly, significant preparatory work, interviews with researchers, document review, and writing and presenting reports to the Director and Institutional Review Board. This position will also assist with non-compliance determinations, action plans, and monitoring. This position will also audit research projects that do not involve human subjects to ensure compliance with federal and institutional requirements and help manage other aspects of the internal quality assessment/improvement program. The second primary responsibility is the review of human subject protocols, which includes applying federal regulations, VA policy, and USD policy and procedures to evaluate proposed human subject research protocol, assisting researchers with changes, and approving the research project. This can be a lengthy, tedious process and involves careful reading, interpretation and application of federal law and institutional policy, and being as helpful as possible to researchers.
This person will be the Director’s authorized delegate when the Director is unavailable.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
