Marine Biology Guest Faculty Position Fall 2026

Rank: Guest Faculty
Tenure Information: Non-Tenure Track
Job Description
The Department of Biology at Sarah Lawrence College seeks a guest faculty member to teach Marine Biology in the fall semester, 2026.  Upon request of the applicant, this course may be instead taught in the spring semester, 2027.  Applicants in other fields of marine science will also be considered and are encouraged to apply, but the proposed course should be taught primarily through a biological lens. We would also consider courses that span marine and freshwater biology.
The Marine Biology or related course will be capped at 15 students and comprised of a seminar class (typically meeting 2x/week) and biweekly meetings with individual students to work on a semester-long independent project. There will be no laboratory component associated with this course. We seek an instructor dedicated to developing the research, writing, and analytical skills of their students in addition to imparting the material of their discipline. As they prepare their applications, candidates are encouraged to consult the SLC course catalogue to view the style and content of course descriptions, especially open-level courses taught in science and mathematics.

Application materials must include: cover letter; CV; statement of teaching philosophy including how consideration of diversity, equity, and inclusion informs your teaching; a catalogue-style description of your Marine Biology or related course including any texts you would use; and names and contact information for three references who will be contacted for a letter of recommendation upon the submission of the candidate’s application.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time. This is an in-person teaching appointment, with the expectation that the appointed individual will teach on campus for the duration of the contract period.

Compensation listed for this position is on a per-course basis, contingent on teaching experience.
