Job Description
The University of Maine’s School of Kinesiology, Physical Education, and Athletic Training in the College of Education and Human Development is seeking applicants for an open rank lecturer in athletic training and exercise science to serve as the Coordinator of Clinical Education for athletic training. The selected applicant may be appointed as a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Principal Lecturer based on prior years of professional and/or teaching experience. The start date for the position is September 1, 2026.Responsibilities:
This position’s primary responsibilities are teaching classes related to Athletic Training.
Prior experience teaching more broadly within adjacent exercise science areas is desirable but not required given the Masters of Athletic Training program’s 3+2 program linking it to an undergraduate exercise science concentration.
Substantive teaching expertise related to clinical skill development is expected.
The successful candidate will also be expected to serve on Program, College, and University-wide committees. In addition, this position’s responsibilities include academic advising.
The expected primary advising responsibilities would be for undergraduate students in the 3+2.
All core athletic training faculty must also participate in the assessment and maintenance of CAATE standards for our program.
Candidates would also be expected to serve as coordinator of clinical education. The successful candidate will be expected to teach both in-person on the Orono campus and online.

Qualifications:
The position requires either (1) a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Athletic Training or in a related area or (2) a master’s degree in Athletic Training or another relevant field and at least five years of relevant teaching and/or professional experience.
In all cases, successful candidates will be required to have a minimum of 3 years of experience with the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, be in good standing with the Board of Certification (BOC,) and be eligible for Maine state licensure as an Athletic Trainer.
Exceptionally well-qualified candidates will be considered for appointment as a senior or principal lecturer where the evidence of exceptional qualification would be provided by some combination of: years of professional experience as an athletic trainer; years of instructional experience as a faculty member in athletic training; and/or a record of accomplished service as program director and/or clinical coordinator.
Experience advising undergraduate and/or graduate students and supervising athletic training students in a clinical setting is preferred.
