Brief Summary of Work for this PositionThe Associate Provost of Global Partnerships and International Education serves as UNCW’s senior academic leader for international education and global engagement. Reporting to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Associate Provost is a collaborative and globally experienced leader providing vision, coordination, and oversight for the University’s global strategic plan initiatives.
The Associate Provost will:
Advance UNCW’s strategic internationalization priorities across teaching, research, service and student success.
Cultivate and steward high-impact global partnerships.
Ensure a welcoming, compliant and supportive environment for international students, scholars and faculty.
This role requires a balance of strategic leadership, operational expertise, and collaborative relationship-building across academic and administrative units. The Associate Provost will possess a keen understanding of the global education landscape and have demonstrated experience in creating and managing global programs, including fiscal oversight. This role collaborates closely with campus constituents including Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Legal and Risk Management, the Provost’s Cabinet and college leadership to ensure compliance and support for global initiatives.

International travel is an essential component of the position based on institutional strategic priority and need.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Earned master’s degree with significant senior-level experience in international education or global engagement.
Minimum of eight years of senior leadership experience, including significant administrative responsibility in international education or global engagement.
Demonstrated success in developing and implementing institution-wide global or international strategies.
Significant experience with one or more of the following: international partnerships, study abroad/global mobility, international student and scholar services, globally engaged research, or international academic programs.
Strong understanding of international education regulations, risk management, and compliance.
Proven ability to lead collaboratively across academic and administrative units in a complex institutional environment.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Doctorate degree.
Experience serving as a Senior International Officer or equivalent role at a public research university.
Experience working at an R2 university.
Demonstrated success managing budgets, personnel, and complex operations within international education.
Record of fostering inclusive, accessible, and equitable global learning opportunities.
Experience contributing to advancement, fundraising, or global alumni engagement.
Proficiency in a second language and substantial international lived or professional experience.
Active engagement in national or international professional associations related to global education.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Global Partnerships and International Education is dedicated to developing and increasing the international dimension of the UNCW campus. This is accomplished by fostering programs and services for international students; helping UNCW students to participate in education abroad programs; assisting UNCW faculty in their teaching, research, and scholarship abroad; developing and strengthening educational linkages with international partners so as to create opportunities for student, faculty, and staff exchanges; identifying and obtaining resources to further the internationalization of UNCW, and by enhancing and expanding international and global opportunities and resources on campus and in the surrounding community.
