Principal Investigator Introduction
Prof. Dr. Jinbo Huang is a principal investigator supported by the National Overseas Young Talent Program of China (2025). Under the supervision of Prof. Martin Fussenegger, he received his doctoral and postdoctoral training at ETH Zurich (2019–2025), where he pioneered the first DC controlled electrogenetic regulatory system for mammalian gene expression, and developed a suite of innovative gene switches responsive to ultrasound, small molecules, ultra short peptides, and the clinically safe drug aspirin. He has published more than 8 first-author papers in top-tier journals including Nature Metabolism, Nature Communications, Advanced Science (2×), Trends in Biotechnology, and Nucleic Acids Research, with collaborative publications in Nature, Nature Nanotechnology, Advanced Energy Materials, and others. Since December 2025, Prof. Huang has joined Hangzhou Institute of Medicine, CAS to lead the Laboratory for Intelligent Cell Engineering & Precision Medicine.
Laboratory Overview & Research Focus
Huang Lab specializes in mammalian synthetic biology, intelligent cell engineering, and translational precision medicine. We integrate synthetic biology, biomedical engineering, AI, materials science, and electronic engineering to build next generation gene and cell therapy tools.
Our core research aims to:
• Design and construct controllable artificial signaling pathways and intelligent cellular sensory systems
• Enable precise cell programming, accelerated directed evolution, and functional cell remodeling
• Equip cells with perception, decision making, and execution capabilities for disease diagnosis and therapy
We focus on breakthrough innovations for cancer, autoimmune diseases, genetic disorders, and metabolic diseases, to advance next generation cell therapies and intelligent biological systems.
Key Research Directions
1. Development of precisely regulated gene delivery & controlled expression systems
2. Intelligent cell delivery platforms and their translational applications
3. Engineering and directed evolution of biosafe drug responsive receptors
4. Innovation and clinical translation of in situ gene therapy
5. Electrogenetic tools and wearable device–gene therapy integrated systems
6. Interdisciplinary innovative directions proposed by (post)doctoral researchers
