We are seeking a mid-career Electro-Mechanical Technologists position on the Responsive Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Architectures team, which is an Advanced and Exploratory Systems organization with staff at both NM and CA. On any given day, depending on your specialization and interests, your responsibilities may include a few or all the following tasks:
- Assemble, modify, inspect, troubleshoot, or repair/rework PCBs, cables, and other electrical equipment
- Perform soldering work for assembly and repairs
- Assist senior members of the workforce to assemble systems to meet project schedules and test schedules
- Provide support for field activities such as testing support at environmental test facilities
- Perform quality inspection using standard equipment such as multimeters, microscopes, etc. and specialized test equipment you¿ll learn on the job.
- Assist in a multitude of tasks involved with electronics lab management (i.e., parts inventory)
- On the job training is available, as needed
Due to the nature of work, successful candidate must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$63,800 - $123,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- High school diploma plus 3 or more years of directly relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to acquire and maintain a U.S. DOE Q security clearance
- Ability to travel within US up to 25% to support functional electrical testing and program needs.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Associate¿s degree in an engineering/electrical field of study
- Intermediate to Advanced solder and rework skills (i.e., familiarity and competency with a soldering iron)
- Experience with inventory and documentation management.
- Quality inspection of cables and PCB boards (i.e., electrical continuity checks and isolation checks, voltage probing, white wiring, and inspection with microscope)
- Fabrication and assembly of test fixtures and enclosures (3D printed or machined)
- Great interpersonal skills (i.e., good at teaming and communicating with others)
- Experience working with classified and hazardous materials/hardware
About Our Team:
As part of the Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Futures Office, the Responsive ND Architectures Department is responsible for creating, maturing, maintaining, and deploying standardized nuclear weapon interface solutions around data and power. Given that Modularity/block upgrades are the goal for next-generation weapon designs, our team enables modular solutions by using standard, flexible interfaces that meet emerging needs with proven survivability characteristics and varied capabilities that can be leveraged across future programs of record and A&E system demonstrators. With our products, component development and system integration efforts are simplified and resilient to late requirements changes without requiring major concession or redesign; multiple options can be carried forward until late in the development cycles; and fielded systems will be upgraded readily without interface redesign. Our solution space includes providing system flight demonstrators to include experiments, sensors, and bus-based telemetry solutions. Our team ranges in work from experiments on the bench to, to testing at state-of-the-art facilities, to flight testing with commercial rockets, university partnerships, and USAF/USN rockets.
In addition, our department is responsible for establishing and building internal and external partnerships with our National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Federal Program Managers, Air Force and Navy program managers, Sandia nuclear weapons component organizations, the Sandia science & technology community, system analysis and strategic partnering groups, the Kansas City Plant National Security Campus (NSC), and many others.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
