The MU School of Medicine is seeking an intermediate-level Programmer Analyst/Application Developer to design, develop, enhance, deploy, and support modern web applications and technology solutions that advance the School of Medicine's clinical, academic, administrative, and data management needs.
This position will play an important role in the School of Medicine's long-term technology strategy, including expanding the use of artificial intelligence, modernizing applications for cloud environments, improving application security, and increasing automation across existing and future systems.
The successful candidate will work as part of an Agile development team supporting and developing applications used by students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders across the School of Medicine and MU Health. The position requires strong full-stack application development skills, particularly with C#, React, and TypeScript, as well as foundational knowledge and practical experience with artificial intelligence, cloud application deployment, application security, and containerization.
The ideal candidate will be able to quickly integrate into an established development team, contribute to existing applications, and help identify opportunities to improve development processes and introduce new technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Design, develop, enhance, test, deploy, and maintain web-based applications supporting the MU School of Medicine's academic, administrative, clinical, reporting, and data management functions.
Develop modern web applications using technologies including C#, .NET/ASP.NET, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, and related frameworks and technologies.
Participate in the modernization and migration of existing applications to cloud-based environments, including designing applications and deployment processes that support scalability, reliability, maintainability, and security.
Apply artificial intelligence technologies to improve existing systems and develop new capabilities, including:
AI-powered workflow automation
AI agents
AI chatbots and conversational applications
AI-assisted software development and code testing
AI-supported application and cybersecurity solutions
Evaluate opportunities to integrate AI capabilities into existing School of Medicine and MU Health applications while considering security, privacy, reliability, maintainability, and responsible use of AI.
Assist with strengthening application security and implementing development practices designed to mitigate traditional and AI-enabled cybersecurity threats.
Develop and maintain secure integrations between applications, databases, APIs, cloud services, and other institutional systems.
Work with relational database technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar platforms, including SQL programming, stored procedures, data modeling, and application/database integration.
Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, technical design, implementation, testing, code review, deployment, troubleshooting, and production support.
Identify, analyze, and document application and business requirements by collaborating with students, faculty, staff, technical teams, and other stakeholders.
Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions that improve and automate business processes, data collection, reporting, and application workflows.
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application, integration, database, deployment, and performance issues.
Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily team collaboration, code reviews, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement activities.
Work with modern development and deployment practices, including source control, automated build and deployment processes, and CI/CD pipelines.
Utilize or support Docker and other containerization technologies for application development, deployment, and environment consistency.
Maintain appropriate technical documentation for applications, architecture, integrations, deployment processes, and operational procedures.
Provide estimates for development efforts and assist with evaluating project feasibility, technical approaches, priorities, risks, and dependencies.
Conduct research and development on emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, software development frameworks, and development automation.
Identify opportunities to improve existing applications, development processes, system architecture, security, maintainability, and overall user experience.
